I rather enjoyed this book even though it is written in a style that surprised me. The conversational tone was unusual but it worked. The best parts of the book are the ideas that are universal in their application. I am not much of a musician, but the values and concepts are such that they are easily identified in other walks of life. That all these simple truths are found in music has sparked a few epiphanies for me. I felt inspired to explore my other passions for similar principles. I just finished reading the book last night. It was well written and thought out. I loved the way he teaches and have decided that - even though I don't play an instrument, I want to make music in my life. This book in not just for musicians but for everyone. Reading this book gives you insight for living a life of values and meaning. It is also written in a compelling style, yet the thoughts are usually only a page or two long. This makes it easy for someone like me - who is very busy - to pick it up and read for a few minutes when I have the time. It left me thinking and questioning my own life and the music I have chosen to make with it.
A rather interesting short book, but quite different from what I had imagined. Dr. McCallister has a droll sense of wit and a deep faith. I loaned the book to a some friends.
