This was a really quick read but with some good world building and nice character sketches. The hero begins as a slave, used by the Princess of his captors for some experience as was apparently the custom of the country. His own people were much less free and so they start from different world views as well as positions of power. Of course when they meet again years later, the power is reversed and that is were the fun starts. This is an erotic read and the sex and language is very explicit at times. I felt a little uncomfortable with some of the discussion about his sexual experience while the two were apart but that is a personal preference thing. The writing was well done. The presentation was overall good but I did notice several typos. Mostly proof reading items that wouldn't be pick up by spell check.Product details

This was a surprising book. Ready it quickly since it kept my attention. As the title implies, it really was about chains and revenge...
This is a wonderful read. Entertaining and well formatted. The characters are well developed. The plot is believable and well crafted.
I really liked the book even tho the actually point of the story seemed to go by fast. Its very sexual & erotic ( I didn't know this upon downladng) but the book was free for me so no complaints.
I read alot and this storyline isn't something that I have came across before. I liked it and worth the time to read. It was free at the time I downloaded it, but well worth the 2.99 it is currently at.
What a lovely brawny, sexy and sensuous read this was! The conflict between the hero and heroine was realistic and I loved the fact that despite their emotional animosity, they were so hot for each other. Really enjoyed this book.
No mucking about. Almost no breathing space. This story is tight with a kind of muscular brutality to the way it's written. Every word on the page counts, no unnecessary trimmings. It's dive straight in, paddle hard and stay breathless. Unbelievable value for a story that's hard to forget.
I've read a number of this style of novellas and usually like them. This one felt like it was a rush job and didn't hit the right tone. I'd like to have it gone through a few more revisions before publishing.
There's a similar set-up to "Kiss of a Demon King" by Kresley Cole. That's an example of how to do this premise right in terms of tone and power dynamic (and my comment applies even though that's an novel and this is a novella).
Specifics
- First section of the book was more "tell" not "show"
- Not enough character building, so hard to understand why Devados waited 10 years or how the Liassa went from spoiled to good leader in the span of what seems to be a few months
- Devados's harsh treatment of the Liassa seemed overboard and not really justified even taking into account his pov
- Liassa didn't have any character flaws and didn't really stand up for herself, inmho
- I personally don't like the romance trope where, after a misunderstanding, the heroine never has sex again and the hero goes off and has tons of sex. That just felt like a cliche to me and made me more skeptical that Devados really had feelings for Liassa.
